Rides and Other Stuff

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 11th at 7pm at Carolina BBQ on North College Road. This will be our last formal meeting for this year. More on that later.

We are in the midst of charity run season and our first opportunity comes this Sunday, November 9th with the Britt Motorsports Operation Care Package. As some of you may remember from last year, this is an effort to collect supplies and money to purchase supplies for our troops in the Middle East. A $10 donation is requested to ride from the Hot Rodz store up to the Jacksonville store, where we will be joined by riders from other areas for a group ride on the Camp Lejeune Base. You will need to wear a DOT helmet, long sleeve shirt, riding boots and gloves to go on the base. You will also need a reflective vest. If you have one, please wear it. Britts supplied them last year, but they may not have enough to go around. Here is a list of items requested by the troops that you can bring to donate - Hot Slim Jims, Sunflower Seeds, Beef Jerky, Books, Candy Canes, Magazines, Hershey Kisses, Phone Cards, Dr Scholls Foot Powder, Cigars, Paperback games, DVD’s, Video Games, CD’s, Gold Bond Medicated Powder, Texas Pete – small plastic bottle, Sport drink mixes-add to bottled water (all flavors). Southern Cruisers has been asked to help out with the ride to Jacksonville, so Road Captains and Tail Gunners will be needed. We will be departing from Hot Rodz at 11am, so plan accordingly.

On Saturday, November 15th, we will have a regular Saturday ride leaving at 10am..

On Sunday, November 23rd is the 23rd Annual Roger Hendrix Memorial Toy Run from Flatline Customs

On Friday, December 5th, some of our members are riding in the Carolina Beach Christmas Parade. More details at the meeting.^th.

On Saturday, December 6th at approximately 2pm, we are planning our Chapter Christmas Party at the KOA Campground at 7415 Market Street (turn on road next to Hess Station). Chef Jack Barnes will be preparing pork shoulders and members are asked to bring a dish to pass. We will be collecting $10 per person to cover the cost of the meat, propane to cook it and the rental of the grounds for the day. They have horseshoes, volleyball, basketball, playground, doggie playground, etc. They also have 6 camping cabins that sleep 4 to 6 at a cost of $49-$60/night. They also have 5 cottages and lodges that sleep about the same, but have bathrooms and kitchens for $69 - $79/ night. Tent camping for $24/night. We decided to do an event during the day so that members could ride to the event if they wanted and also to have a location with sleeping facilities. This might also attract SCRC from other chapters to come down for lunch or possibly spend the night. Please respond to this email OR to the post on the forum if you plan to attend and how many so we can plan food accordingly. Call KOA at 686-7705 if you want to reserve a cabin – make sure you tell them you are with Southern Cruisers, as it will impact how much we have to pay for the rental of the facilities. THIS EVENT WILL TAKE THE PLACE OF OUR DECEMBER MEETING!
